THE ELM TREE OF KÖPEC

After winning the Romanian tree of the year 2011 title, this month (February), the Elm entered for the EUROPEAN TREE OF THE YEAR 2012 competition.
There are seven finalists in this competition.
One of them is our tree, the 300 years old Elm.
Six more trees are competing for the title. Czech, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Slovak, Polish and French trees.
For us THE ELM TREE OF KÖPEC must be the winner.

You can visit the Elm in Romania (Transylvania), Covasna county. A small region in the heart of the country. Village: Köpec (Căpeni).
The three-branched, 35 meters high, 7.3 meters round waist sized tree, was entered in the competition by Zoltán Demeter secretary of the Lost World Nature Reserve, Tourist and Speleological Society, proposed by a well known forester in the region Jenő Antal and a biology teacher Sándor Lőrincz.
